Lagina Plumbing Does Its Part for Hurricane Relief
Oct. 15 , 2008 – Disaster relief crews in Florida and Texas have been keeping themselves clean thanks in part to fast-track plumbing work provided by Lagina Plumbing of Milwaukee.
The Lagina team built and installed shower systems for 17 trailers used by utility and other assistance personnel helping out in the aftermath of hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
“On two days’ notice, we provided the materials and labor so that each of the 17 trailers has 17 shower stalls,” said Jim Lagina, president of the commercial plumbing company.
Lagina Plumbing worked with a national rental company that placed the trailers for the disaster relief crews.
“We prefabricated waste and water components at our Milwaukee shop, and installed those as soon as the trailers were delivered,” Lagina said. “It was a set of long days and nights for many of our field plumbers and for Steve Pitz and Kevin Pillar from our management staff to make the shower trailer units ready. We did as much of this work during off hours to minimize the impact on existing work for our other clients, and we appreciate the patience those clients showed as we handled this urgent project.”
Along with materials that Lagina Plumbing has in its prefabrication shop, its team relied on an expedited order of shower modules it procured from a manufacturer in Cleveland, and coordinated the transportation of those units to Milwaukee. “To keep things moving, we went directly to the manufacturer and took care of the transportation logistics,” Lagina noted.
“The utility and assistance crews have been working incredibly hard to restore vital services, clear debris, help people in need and otherwise bring life back to normal in Florida and Texas,” Lagina said. “We’re happy we could do our part to make their lives a little more comfortable, so they can continue to do their invaluable work. We understand that the shower units have been used extensively. In Florida, for example, 3,500 workers took more than 100,000 showers in the shower trailers in a 15-day period.”
