Lagina Plumbing Part of Greenfield High’s Major Renovation; Design/Build Approach Realizes Big Savings

Sept. 9 , 2009 -- With the fall sports season under way, students, staff and visitors to Greenfield High School in Greenfield, Wis. are enjoying new plumbing systems that came as part of a major construction project.
Lagina Plumbing of Milwaukee designed and installed the plumbing systems for a 9,800-square-foot building, with a maintenance facility on the first floor and athletic field restrooms and concessions on the second floor.
The work was done for general contractor C.G. Schmidt, which renovated existing areas of the school and built an addition in a $42.1 million update to the high school.
Lagina Plumbing transformed a plan and specification project into a design/build approach to realize a significant cost saving for the school district.
“By utilizing facilities in the adjacent school building approximately 150 feet away, we saved the taxpayers of Greenfield a high five-figure amount, due to plumbing the maintenance facility for its sanitary in lieu of almost a thousand feet of sewer line,” said Jim Lagina, president of the commercial plumbing company.
“The building is now more functional for the maintenance staff and rugged enough on the upper level for students and fan use during athletic functions,” Lagina added.
Greenfield High School will host an open house from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26.
This is the second major school renovation project that Lagina Plumbing handled in 2009. The company also was part of the team that renovated and added on to Brookfield Central High School in Brookfield, Wis.
