Lagina Completes Major Plumbing System Work for Expansive Brookfield Central High Project in Record Time

August 11 , 2009 --Students and staff at Brookfield Central High School will enjoy new restroom fixtures while the Elmbrook School District benefits from more efficient plumbing systems installed as part of a $27.4 million renovation and addition to the school on Gephardt Road.
The plumbing work was handled in record time by Lagina Plumbing, which met tight deadlines to accommodate the start of the 2009-10 school year.
The construction project is being undertaken for the Elmbrook School District by Boldt Consulting Services, with C.G. Schmidt serving as construction manager.
Plumbing work started on June 15. Phase I had to be ready by Aug. 8 for athletic department areas while Phase II needed to be ready for an Aug. 24 move-in for the whole school.
Plumbing work included new systems for the building addition and upgrades in other areas where existing pipes are deteriorated or where systems are out of code. Water-conserving faucets and toilets were installed.
It took 48 work days to remove old piping, fixtures and equipment, provide the new installation of approximately 200 plumbing fixtures and more than 15,000 feet of waste and water piping, and provide new boiler water heaters/storage tanks to meet the needs of the 2009 academic enrollment, said Jim Lagina, president of the Milwaukee-based commercial plumbing company.
“It would not have been possible to meet the deadlines without the coordinated efforts of C.G. Schmidt’s office and field project staff, our dedicated field staff, subcontractors, preferred vendors and suppliers,” Lagina said.
Through the project, the 1950s-era building is being expanded from 271,000 square feet to 308,168 square feet.
“We’re honored to be part of this significant project that will give the residents of Brookfield and Elm Grove a better place for their children’s high school education,” said Lagina.
The building project began in October 2008 and is expected to be completed by August 2010. A major portion of the project, two new gymnasiums, should be ready when students return to class in September.
Along with the new gyms, the Brookfield Central project will include new heating and ventilation systems with air conditioning, new science labs, upgraded and more efficient electrical systems, handicap accessibility and improved security and fire protection.
